The St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Guild invites you to lunch at the Garrick Club, London on Wednesday 8th May at 12.30pm. Alice Laugher, Ursula, Lady Westbury’s grandaughter, is to speak of her work in the Middle East and Africa.
Alice is CEO of CTG.org. CTG is an award-winning private sector company that enables humanitarian and development projects in post-conflict or post-disaster environments from the Middle East to West Africa. It is a solutions business recruiting and managing people to implement projects in the world’s toughest regions.
In 2017 GTG launched Female First to help strengthen women’s access to decent work opportunities in the aid and development sectors of the countries where they operate. In post-conflict areas the involvement of women in the workplace lowers drastically. Yet, we know that the participation of women across all facets of society, including the workplace, is central to realising gender equality and creating more peaceful and prosperous countries.
Ursula, Lady Westbury CBE GCSTJ JP, who recently died at the age of 99, was a former Chairman of the Guild and was an active and committed member of the Guild for 30+ years. Lady Westbury was a dedicated supporter and advocate for the Eye Hospital Group. Urs, as she liked to be called, was a revered figure within the St John family. Obituary: Ursula, Lady Westbury
